Beethoven edition
on: February 18, 2011, 06:24:34 PM
I'm trying to decide which is the best edition of the 32 beethoven sonatas that are "public domain."

I currently have at my disposal the following:

1. Vienna universal edition (Heinrich Schenker)

2. Rutheradt/Kohler (offered on piano street)

3. Bulow edition

4. First editions

5. Breitkopf and Hartel

Well I can't really make a decision about which is best, because I've only ever had one. But the Henrich Schenker is a very good edition.
Currently:
Chopin Grand Valse Brilliante
Mozart Piano Sonata K 332
Scriabin Preludes Op 11 no.5,6,7
Bach Prelude and Fugue in G minor

I thought so. unfortunantly this edition contains minor errors (missing accidentals) but it does reproduce bethoveen's notation exactly as the autograph or first edition and is usable.
