Improvisation 3
on: March 03, 2011, 07:44:34 PM
Hi Folks
I was still keeping fairly tonal with this one, but maybe a little more adventurous than my first two outings.
Do let me know what you think
cheers

Rich, melodic and expressive (haha, rich, melodic and expressive, didn't see the double meaning of your name at first)) as in the other pieces you've posted. I notice you're doing a bit more with your left hand playing some scales and what not in a couple of places. Sounds almost hymn like! Have you considered going completely crazy and doing something that you, at this point in time, think you might not like? That's always an option of course. I don't mean necessarily a cacophony of atonal dissonance either, I mean perhaps simply level of intensity or tempo, or rhythm, etc.
Since you're a performer and have an established style that you know pleases audiences and sells cds, maybe you could try the crazier stuff "privately" and allow it to inform your "public" style, if that makes sense. The only peril there is you might end up enjoying making music for yourself far more than making music to sell!
Note all that is based on my own experience and taste--you're clearly very confident and established in your style. It's up to you where you want to go from here.
Remember---what happens on pianostreet, stays on pianostreet.

Hi Derek
sorry for late reply and thanks for the kind words.
When Im improvising at home, I am a bit more adventurous, tho once I hit record, the little red light does tend to focus me somewhat. I will try and keep your good advice in mind - its good to expand those horizons.
Lately Ive taken a new step and started including an improvisation in my live shows which has gone really well - the first one was a bit tentative, but I let go more into the second. Because I play a digital piano Ive been able to record the pieces into its memory and then later on record the audio and send them out as MP3s to anyone from the audience who has left me their email at the gig.
yours adventurously
