Video: A Song for a Bear, composed by me
on: May 11, 2011, 04:08:16 AM
This piece was inspired by my other passion, teddy bears.  I tried to write a song that would paint a musical picture of hugging a teddy bear.  I was holding bears when I wrote it and I usually do when I play it.  This recording was done at church after the evening service.  It had to be done pretty quickly.  I tried to use a wavepad sound editor to get all the buzzing out.  It's kind of soft.  The intro is a song my grandma used to sing to me when I was a kid about my bear.  I know it sounds like Hush Little Baby, but I didn't even realize that was the same tune until someone pointed it out to me.  The piece is sort of a cross between a music box and Floyd Cramer, but I think I sort of chanel Mozart at the end of it.

That was so soothing, I almost fell asleep. I especially love the ending!

It's pretty and I like it, but I have to say that there is a chord progression 2:35-2:54 that, in my opinion, doesn't fit with the rest of the piece.

Which part are you talking about?  Are you not digging the augmented chord or the I, VI, V/V, V part?  I hope I did that correctly.  I use the Nashville number system.  We call that a 2 major, but I wasn't going to write that in front of a bunch of classical players, lol.  BTW, that's a gospel progression.  The augmented chord was stuck in there because I thought it sounded cool.

I am currently learning how to do music and singing lessons with babies and toddlers and this would really perfectly fit for them (but that's of course not the only reason I like it for, it's as well a very beautiful composition for everyone else, especially for adult children like me, hee hee, and btw I have composed something similar). Once I start my own classes (perhaps in the fall) I might get back to you and ask you for permission to play it in my classes :)

Go ahead.  I just wrote it for my bears.  I'm not interested in playing professionally.  I just play for my own enjoyment and for worship and also just to make people happy.  Music can be very therapeutic.
