Price of Steinway in the US?
on: July 18, 2011, 03:55:43 PM
I am trying to get an idea of the prices of Steinway in the US.

I live in Denmark and a model S is about $85000. Is that around the same or is it more expensive?

I realise different stores have different prices, but they can't be too far from each other. I don't need exact numbers.

Thanks in advance!

A model S is roughly 45K new in the US and 8-10k more for each model up like the M, O, B. I see a lot of Europeans shopping for pianos in the Manhattan showrooms since the US dollar is so weak. They buy them here and ship them back home. They must be saving something.

Uff, yes that is a lot cheaper.

Actually, the dollar is quite strong right now. The best it been in the last 6 years at least (that's when I started knowing about stuff like that).

Thanks a lot!!

It's  nice to hear  that the dollar is doing well somewhere, 'cause it's in the tank relative to the Euro, the pound, the Canadian dollar, etc.  (Not that Steinway needs the extra business). --s.

Well, it doesn't really work like that. Just because you don't get one Euro for one Dollar, it doesn't mean the Dollar is 'weak'. When the dollar rises in value in Denmark it is does just as much in any other country.

In Canada Model A is around 60k, B around 82k and D 125k.  I think S is around the 35-40k mark, but I've never payed much attention to that model.  All Canadian dollars.

Over here it seems like the Model D is a steal.  A lot of the other concert grands go for much more than it.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Incorrect. The dollar might rise against the Danish kroner (DKK), but drop against the Euro. That would make things cheaper in Denmark and more expensive in the EU (for a person paying in US dollars.)

Anyway, the dollar is weak. It has risen against the pound (GBP) over the last several years, but it still weaker against the pound than in was 10 years ago.

The dollar is quite weak against the Euro. Six years ago a Euro cost about $1.25. Now it's nearly $1.50.

European's can get better deals in America today, compared with 5 or 6 years ago.

Will that remain true? The Euro is in trouble because of the Greek and Spanish economic problems. Who knows what will happen next?

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
