Descendants of Composers?
on: August 26, 2004, 06:12:20 AM

Liszt's daughter Cosima married Richard Wagner.  They had Siegfried Wagner who was a composer.  His son is Wolfgang Wagner who today (amazingly if you consider that Richard Wagner was born in 1813) is still leading the Bayreuth festival, that was founded by Richard.

Here's an article from last month and a pic of Wolfgang:

So that's Liszt's great grandson/Wagner's grandson.

One of my good friends and fellow jam buddy (I do jazz piano and he does Jazz trumpet, and we both do Classical Piano) is Louis Stravinsky, great grandson of the man himself, Igor.  He's a great dude and a pretty rocking pianist, although I don't think he's a Juliard bound prodigy.  But hey who is and can also say they have a normal life.

Ummm I don't know about proof but his parents verify his story, I met his dad a few times, and his grandfathers name is Soulima, who released a recording called "Soulima Stravinsky Plays Igor Stravinsky," which he lent to me.  I'm not joking he really is Igor's great grand son.

He says his ultimate goal is to play Petrouchka, but every time he's tried he's failed.  He's only 16 (I'm 15) so thats understandable given the tremendous difficulty of Petrouchka.  His grandfather plays it pretty well on Soulima Stravinsky Plays Igor Stravinsky but the recording is a little poor... Do you know where I could get any other recordings of Petrouchka?
