Cathedral
on: August 06, 2011, 10:40:24 AM
Hi,
I have a keyboard which has the sound of various instruments. 10 could be flute, 11 could be guitar, and so on. There's also a thing called cathedral. What is it? Is it an instrument? It sounds very good but am not sure what instrument it is. Does anyone who has a keyboard know about this?

The mind boggles! I've played a few keyboards and enjoy investigating some of the more surreal stops, but I've never come across that one. Can you post an example, perhaps?
(Could be cathedral organ, of course, but I imagine you'd recognise one of those.)

I have an old Casio that had a "cathedral" patch which had kind of a layered synth sound. On the attack it was kind of synth brass sound and then more sustained was a synth choir sound and a pipe organ type of sound. Cool sound but limited usefulness.
But I guess a "cathedral" patch could have just about any sound that reminded someone of being in a cathedral.

A good description of cathedral would be to listen to ' Toccata and Fugue '....

Its real fat church organ with a good dose of reverb to fake the acoustics.
