My summer pieces...
on: August 07, 2011, 08:04:51 PM
Well I'm practicing a lot of pieces now during the summer holidays and I don't have piano lessons so I'm not completely sure if I'm playing everyhing right... so I just thought I would post three of the pieces. And if someone feels like listening and has some advice or something it would be great. I'm still learning these pieces so it's not great and it's also kinda quiet because I'm practicing with the quiet pedal most of the time. When I learn them better I will probably post some of them in the Audition room with better sound (and playing  :P ).

The first one is Minuet in G-major, J.S. Bach (I'm not sure if I'm playing too much staccato or not enough maybe  :-\ )
The second is Etude, H. Lemoine (well this one is probably a little boring to listen to  :P )
The third is Dreaming (or maybe Day dreaming), C. Gurlitt (and I really like this one but I don't know if I'm playing it right and if I'm using the pedal right and oh what does: "Ped. come sopra" mean? I just thought that it probably means that you should use the pedal the same as in the first part).

Well if anyone has any advice it would be great otherwise I'll just keep practicing this way. :)

EDIT: well these recordings weren't very good :P Speacially "Dreaming" was pretty bad! :x So I'll post videos from now (hope it's a little better now!).

I only had time to listen to the Minuet, but here is what I thought:

Some of these criticisms could possibly have been the fault of the microphone, so if that is the case please disregard them. You need to pay more attention to the balance between the left and right hand. Nearly the whole piece has the melody in the right hand, so you need to bring that out more. Sometimes the melody was lost in the left hand accompaniment. I think you need to play louder in the fortes and mezzofortes. There was one place where I thought you played loud enough, so I don't think it was the microphone this time. Overall you have the notes of the piece, so good work on that. I will listen to the other 2 later, but so far I think your teacher will be pleased.

Good luck!
John

Thank you very much for your comment! :) No I don't think it's the microphone, I really didn't work on the dynamics enough yet  :P and it's a little harder to do the right dynamics when I'm playing with the quiet pedal... so now that I can play the right notes I'll start practicing without the quiet pedal and thinking more about the dynamics!  8) Thank you!  :)
