Getting Divorced--Best Venue to Sell a Mason & Hamlin Grand?
on: August 16, 2011, 05:26:36 AM
Hi All,
I am a newbie here. I am getting divorced this week, and we need to sell our 8-year-old Mason & Hamlin Grand. We paid almost $40k for it, but the dealer here who wants to sell in on consignment wants to take half of what he thinks it will sell for, giving my soon-to-be-ex and I just a couple of thousand apiece.
I know there is no way we sell it for anything close to what we paid for it, but I was wondering what is the best venue for selling a piano like this? Is piano store consignment the best way? Are there other venues which might get us a more fair return?
Thanks

10% to the dealer should be enough. Ask more dealers or search the net for places to sell the piano. I would say you should get paid pretty close to what you paid yourself if the piano is in good condition.
