Finger injured
on: August 27, 2011, 03:28:12 AM
Hi everyone, I am new to here and seeking advice for my injured finger.

A few weeks ago, I accidentally hurt my hand during my taekwon-do training. It was swollen at that time as my doctor described it as a 'sausage', the doctor issued me three days of medicine and told me to have enough rest. Now, after three weeks the bruise has gone and my finger recovers its original shape, but still, it hurts, though not as bad as before. And it has been 3 weeks that I haven't touch my piano, do you all think I need to be patience to wait for another few more days to wait it heals itself or consult another doctor?

Advice is needed. Thank you.

p/s: I am getting irritated to not to play my piano because I scare it will hurt my finger again.

You can still practice with the opposite hand but I wouldn't highly recommend that you practice with a damaged finger. It will take longer to heal if you do.

@shadowzerg
Thanks for your advice, but I find that practicing with only one hand is quite strange and I am not used to it lol. Anyway, it is getting whole lot better and I expect it to recover very soon. Thanks.

Sorry to tell you this and hope it's not going to be with you but I too injured one of my fingers during a martial arts competition. (Cracked knuckle)
It was long ago but it has developed into arthritis. The middle knuckle
of my third finger (Thumb being one) is always swollen and it does not respond as well as I would like. Just something I have to deal with I guess.
What works for me is rubbing a little Ben-Gay or Icy Hot on it before a gig. But be careful not to leave it on your finger tips....
Hope that helps...

I took Hapkido in my youth and still work out occasionally. How my broken finger became arthritic is beyond me but I've learned to live with it...

I had cellulitis and months of post-infection edema in my right index finger. It was very frustrating. I practised the LH parts of all the new pieces that I was planning to learn, and also played the Bach cello suites with the LH so I wouldn't die of boredom. It was really good for my left hand. Now that the right hand works again, it's been quite quick to learn all those pieces from which I had worked on the LH parts.

Don't be in too much of a hurry. Let the injury heal properly.
