Anton Kuerti
on: November 09, 2011, 03:03:37 AM
Over six years ago, there was a short thread on this forum about Anton Kuerti. I just discovered it, having only found out about the Piano Street site a few days ago. The person who initiated the thread in 2005 said that he had just recently discovered Mr. Kuerti and asked if there were others who had heard of him. In 1966, as a 16 year-old piano nerd, I loved classical piano music, and owned Van Cliburn's "My Favorite Chopin" album, as well as a Debussy album by a different pianist. Somehow I bought Anton Kuerti's Beethoven sonatas album and fell in love. Soon I bought Kuerti's Schumann LP and I played both so much that the grooves nearly disappeared! Completely smitten, I wrote a letter to a celebrity, something I had not done since I proposed marriage to Rock Hudson when I was six years old. I wrote to Mr. Kuerti, telling him of the albums of his that I had and how I played them over and over, and the music meant so much to me. To my amazement, he replied with a very warm and kind letter. I have been an avid fan ever since. My dearest hope now is that he will come to Omaha, Nebraska to perform.
