Bringing out a left hand melody.
on: December 21, 2011, 10:53:36 PM
I struggle with playing the left hand more loudly than the right to bring out a left hand melody.Whenever I play the left hand louder my right hand  automatically plays louder.

Any tips or advice for bringing otu left hand melodies.

Thanks.

try/practice playing a scale hands together, but don't actually play the RH - instead just barely touch the keys with the RH while playing the LH mf or f.

if that's too hard start with individual notes, build up to the scale, then to your piece.

My teacher told of one ancient method for this!!

Have a bowl filled with water, get your hands on the water, but leave one light enough to float and sink the other! It kind helped me  8)

"ghosting"

play loud with the melody hand, and "ghost" the other hand. This means only pretend to play it. Your fingers still move and you touch the keys, but not enough pressure to depress the keys. Taking it to this extreme is difficult, but the feedback is invaluable. After doing it this way a few times, you can gradually let the ghosting hand sink in and start to make sound.

Good luck!
