My College Submission- Chopin Nocturne E Flat.
on: December 23, 2011, 09:28:23 PM
Hello all. Please see through the fuzz here... maybe play it on computer speakers and not headphones. This is my submission for college. Please let me know what you think. I actually think the fuzz makes it sound like an old piano roll or something.

Chopin Nocturne op. 9 no. 2 in E flat Major. (Yeah, risky submitting something so well known, I know)

I think this is played very beautifully, very expressive and thoughtful! I like your interpretation very much! :)

Thanks! I appreciate it! It was really nerve wracking getting everything right.... Some really experienced folk will be listening!

Do you think I should re-record it because of the fuzz or is it no big deal?

Of course it would be better without the fuzz. I guess you have turned the input level too high on your recording device. Speaking for myself, as a listener, your musicality shines very well through it and is very well communicated, but for an official submission I'd recommend to rerecord it if possible.

you bring a very instrospective quality to this without letting it get too ooey gooey gushy overly sentimental (easy to do and very common with these).  there's a nice sense movement but it's not in a particular hurry to get there. very nice playing. if i were to give  suggestions it would be to look for places where perhaps there are some expressive accidentals in the inner voices of the lh part and see if youcan voice to those a bit more while widening the contrast/balance between rh and lh (again this very good just a suggestion of where i'd look to explore other places to make it even more lovely).

i agree with the suggestion to try and rerecord for better clarity.

what kind of instrument did you play this on by chance?

My teacher's 1988 Steinway Grand. 6 foot-ish. Thank you for the kind words and the suggestions!

I like this!

What college is this for? I'm practicing for college auditions right now.

It was really nice and I enjoyed it. One thing, however. It was a bit slow for my liking but probably I just listen to too much recordings played at a faster tempo. But the thing is that you got the piece under your control and played at a speed where you would make minimal to no errors and a tempo that you are confident with. I just wanted to point out the trills/cadenza at the end is what makes me jump out of my seat. But speed doesn't matter of course it is just my perspective. Excellent work.
