on: February 16, 2012, 11:56:35 AM
I don't know where to put this but to be on the safe side I just put it here, cos I thought it didn't fit in toher boards, as I know.

What is/are some of the best advice you have recieved on your technique/pieces etc?

So far I think it was "Only care about the clarity of your message". Advice given from myself to myself.

I guess it was a pretty clear message :).

I don't know what has been the best advice ever.  There have been truly hoards of very wonderful thoughts shared towards me, many from my teachers and some close friends, as well as very much prayer.  Sometimes advice isn't even advice, but action.  Sometimes I still have rememberences of things people have said to me years ago, which sank very deeply and crop up at times of need (even in some cases where it's very questionable whether it was meant as advice or not!).

I started an identical thread a while back!   Mine was to sing everything possible before touching the keyboard - especially lyrical pieces.
When a search is in progress, something will be found.

I don't recall that thread you created but I believe you. Sometimes a thread like this deserves to be tossed around.

Mine was 'listen to what you are playing' and that is the golden rule of piano playing. Weird, but hold that piece of advice in high regard. Every now and then I would read some of Bernhard's (I wish he were back) posts and  some I find too long and too good.

Best quote that I can think of that I began thinking about recently in the last couple of years...

An amateur practices until he can get it right... a Professional practices until he can't get it wrong.

Wish I knew who said that...
