I wish that Horowitz played the Ossia Cadenza of the Rach 3 instead of the Tocatta.

I also wish that Valentina Lisitsa recorded prokofiev's 2nd piano concerto along with the Rach 3 minus orchestra.

I wish Berezovsky would record La Campanella
I wish Hamelin would record Alkan's Le Preux
I wish Yuja Wang would record Prokofiev's Toccata

I only get three wishes right?

Oh I wish Berezovsky recorded Scarbo.  There's a video of him on YouTube playing it but the quality is garbage.  He does a fantastic job though!

You can get as many wishes as you want as long as you know that they probably won't come true lol.

I was about to post the exact same thing except you took the words out of my fingers.

Did you know that Valentina recorded part of Prokofievs second for a rock band?

Timea  :)
Current repertoire:
Bach Toccata in E minor
Beethoven Sonata op.110
Rachmaninov Corelli Variations
Liszt Paganini Etudes No.2 and 6.

If Glenn Gould had recorded Alkan's Grande Sonate Op.33 or Le Festin D'Esope, that would undoubtedly be the greatest piano recording in history.

I wished that Horowitz officially recorded Scriabin's 9th sonata because unfortunately, the only recording we have of him playing it, some loser was coughing the WHOLE TIME!!!

Why? He often played Mozart and Bach at much faster tempos than his contemporaries.

It would be really interesting to hear the young Richter or Lhevinne  perform Godowsky´s transcriptions of the Chopin Etudes.

Horowitz, the young Hofmann or Rachmaninov playing Alkan in particular
Grande Sonate 'Les Quatre Ages' - 30 Ans 1/2  ;D

Rachmaninov playing Beethoven´s sonatas in particular Pathetique and Hammerklavier.

Of the recordings that might happen I would say Volodos playing Beethoven sonatas in particular no.8,17,29 and 30

I would love to hear Argerich play these sonatas as well but that will propably never happen, it´s almost as unlikely that Ivo Pogorelich would play them and do a good job these days but in the early nineties  he would have played them great I am pretty sure about that.

Rachmaninoff playing all of his works with BETTER QUALITY.

Richter play the Godowsky version of Chopins thirds etude.

I agree with all of these. It would have also been amazing to hear the great Cziffra play the Godowsky/Chopin etudes as well. Best recording ever.

Especially if he recorded it before he became a P.O.W. and injured his hands.  He never recovered completely actually.

Would love to hear the young Josef hofmann play these etudes as well.

And a lot of other works such as the Liszt sonata.

A pity Argerich hasn't/won't play the Paganini Rhapsody. It would seem ideal for her. I think it's a better piece than the 3rd concerto, though few will agree.

i had always wondered how gould would play debussy, those recordings would be "legendary" :D
i had wondered how horowitz would manage the late beethoven sonatas, he only has op.101 under his hands
i would have liked rachmaninoff play chopin's 3rd sonata too, given the way he has managed the 2nd it left me breathless...

Has Martha performed all of her repertoire in public?

Many pianist only performed a fraction of their repertoire in public. Ogdon is a good example.

Hardly. The 1st Mephisto Waltz is reportedly quite a party piece for her, and she has been heard 'warming up' with the Schumann Toccata. But neither piece has appeared on a recital within recent memory.

As for the Rachmaninov, no doubt she has read through the piece, but there is no indication she ever formally learned it... as far as I know.

But she played the mephisto waltz in public back in the old days or? She has recorded the Schumann Toccata and it was technically brilliant but you can tell that she wasn´t a mature pianist when she recorded it.

Glenn Gould really favored contrapuntal, linear music so I would have loved to hear what he would do with "vertical" harmonized music like Debussy, would he even use a pedal?

And more Bach from Horowitz, don't know if I've heard any.

-I want to see Alice Sara Ott play Rachmaninoff Op. 23 no. 4, cause the piece is just as pretty as she is.
-AND I WANT TO HEAR MARTHA ARGERICH PLAY MENDELSSOHN'S PIANO CONCERTO NO 1 SO BADLY BEFORE SHE GETS TOO OLD!! I hope this doesn't exist already, cause I can't find it anywhere...

Very ironic sense of humor you have.

For me, I'd have liked Bolet to have done the 10-odd measures that he dropped in his recording of Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 2.
