Right hand left hand coordination, Help!
on: April 29, 2012, 02:47:28 PM
Hi there! I was wondering if anybody has any tips regarding coordination with left hand right hand. You see, i'm learning a piece where the right hand has a 4/4 beat and the left hand is in 3/3 beats. I really am a little stuck and was hoping somebody could give me some tips, hints, whatever really

I'm assuming you are talking about 16th notes over triplets, or 32nds over sextuplets...
few things you can work on.
first - cup of tea for me. There are a few phrases people can use for some of the polyrhythms. Cup of tea works well for 3 over 2. For 4 over 3 I add the 'for me' at the end of the phrase.
thinking through that should point to another way of working it out... .get comfortable drumming out 3 with your right hand and 2 with your left. Once you can do 3 over 2 well, seaming in the additional beat with both is pretty easy.
I think there are few relatively recent threads around here where they lay out a lot of methods for doing this.... gonna guess that the project fantaisie impromptu thread would be an excellent place to start look.
