I can understand why a lot of you don't like rap music, but the to say that it's garbage is quite irrational. Sure their is a lot of rap that might sound unappealing: the lyrical content (sex, drugs, violence), but that's not rap always was, nor is that what rap is today.
One of the things that make rap different is its fundamental principle of verbal expression; the origins of rap also have very big impact on what it is today. Rap was made by urban dwellers as an outlet to tell their life stories to people who would listen. Now to say that's what rap is now wouldn't be accurate, but it is imprtant to understand that rap isn't what you hear on the radio or watch on tv; it's emcompasses a whole sub-culture that people never see.
The effort invested in a rap is substantial, the use of rhythm while cosistently keep a rhyme scheme requires tremendous skill. However, the music profession has been reduced to an effort to push as many cds as possible which has compromised the creativity and the freedom of the artists to a certain extent.
Well to preven a long story from beig longer I'll just say this: To insult a music form is really unecessary, because everyone listens to music for different reasons. I can say almost the same thing rock, techno and anything else that's new. I've heard these same negative comments about classical music and my reaction's been the same. I'm not saying that you ppl should like rap or anything, because people have tastes and their are bound to be ppl unwilling to expand their musical pallettes, but I'm just asking that you refrain from making statements like "Rap/Rock/Heavy Metal is garbage."
