I am new here.
on: June 22, 2012, 04:03:25 PM
I would like to take this opportunity to ask about the 'unwritten rules' of this forum. Is there anything I should know about? A little rundown would be great. Also, I'd like to ask if you regular users out there could please make yourselves known to me. I like to feel a sense of community.

Thanks!

Hi Wonzo,  My name is jmanpno.  I am a regular user, but am learning more and more every day about all these "rules".  I think common sense is the best guide, as always.  I've learned people may prefer discussing new topics rather than having older questions answered.  Personally unless someone is a date-checker (related to "rivet-counter") I don't know how they would know this!

So welcome.  I'd love to hear some more about you.

...  I think common sense is the best guide, as always. ..

everytime i read something like that i am reminded of the signature quote at the end of emails i used to get from an old molecular genetics professor of mine, "common sense isn't" lol

in all seriousness, just try to be considerate, try to contribute more than you ask of, consult dr. google prior to posting as appropriate.

do not ask for or post scores of copyrighted non public domain piano works, and those that are public domain, refer requests to the piano street sheet music service if the piece is offered before posting something that can dilute the revenue for the site.

try to abstain from expounding on subjects you have little authority on or at least make sure you are passing along good info, i.e speak not what you know not of.

ask plenty of questions. try not to derail threads too badly or at least try to get them back on track.

look for appropriate sub boards/rooms for topic starts.

do not doulbe post in an effort to try to get a response , more reponses or reponds faster.

have fun. don't be too serious. don't be troll.

that's all i got.

I'd love to hear some more about you.

I'm a high school student and a serious advanced-level pianist. Sometimes I compose for fun, but I'm too lazy to seriously compose.  ::)

I just finished Chopin's nocturne Op. 15 No. 2 and I'm currently working on the Op. 62 No. 2 nocturne. I'm a big Chopin fan. What about you? - and what composers do you listen to?

I'm in a bit of a lull at the moment.  However I leaf through Faure's Ballade (solo pno version), Liebermann's 8th Nocturne, and some Beethoven.  Listening to lots of vocal stuff now.  Wagner, etc.

Again in terms of the piano I'm in a bit of a dry spell.  I'm more of one to listen to specific pianists sometimes and compare that way.
