I did it ! But whats up with my pinky finger?
on: August 11, 2012, 08:24:12 PM
After short more than 2 weeks, I am finally able to play Canon in D (from piano street), at almost the full speed, though it needs some more polishing. I have been recording (sound and images) my performances and I noticed a rather disturbing detail. I don't intuitively use my right pinky finger, I mean, I really don't use it intuitively ! 90% of the time it is completely still. I know that fingerings are very personal, but this is not right, right? To not use the 5th finger (right hand, on my case). I have been inducing its use many times now, even though I didn't notice any changes in comfort or discomfort (though it demands some precious attention), just because it looks very ugly when I play that way, haha!

Have you had any similar issues?

And the smoothness of your hands/fingers is determined by your state of spirit and stress level, right? I noticed that when I play after a tiring and stressful day my hands seem less smooth, kind of "choppy", I'm glad it doesn't seem to affect the sound as well. This will hopefully vanish as my experience increases.

Thinking better, I guess this post is weird as hell, lol. It doesn't really matter (fingerings), does it?

Well, the pinky is naturally the weakest finger, so its natural. But, when the moment seems opportune, its better to use the pinky finger instead of using another finger because you DONT want to use it. IT doesn't have to be common, but it does need to be used when necessary, and not substituted
Working on:
Bach Invention 7 (also Tureck's book)
Clementi Sonatina 3
Rachmaninoff Moment Musicaux no. 3
Skrjabin Prelude op.11 no.4
Joplin The Favorite Rag
