VIDEO: Chopin Etude 10 1
on: August 20, 2012, 12:38:31 PM

Not so good quality, but I've really been working hard on this. Some small sections there still need lots of work on. I'm aware that the most difficult part of the middle section I sort of faked through a few of the arpeggios. I wasn't able to nail the descending Cm7 and Amajor sections quite as well, but overall what would your impression of this be?

Thanks  :D

Very impressive the speed you've achieved on this. Not too many wrong notes either.. so its impressive. :) I suspect though that there are some note value inaccuracies that are currently happening due to insufficient slow practice. So I'd suggest doing more careful slow practice and nail those note values down. You're well on your way to playing this etude really well. This is one of the last etudes that I plan to tackle because that's how hard I think it is. Good luck!

Hi zjazzchopin,

I enjoyed the video! I believe that your rendition is really quite good.  You have a solid technique that can meet the demands of this piece. While there are some minor slips, they don't detract from the overall effect.  I liked the voicing of the melodic elements and the strategic harmonies too.  From reading your remarks, you are already well aware of the enhancements needed to bring the playing up to your own high standard.  This tells me that you are your own worst critic which is a big plus for any pianist.  That's why you put the piece across to the listener as convincingly as you have.

Excellent work!  Just add a bit more polish.  You're almost there.

David

Your voicing and musical choices were very nice. The left hand maybe should be slightly louder in some places but, overall, I like how it was relaxed and understated. I enjoyed listening! Thank you for sharing.

good work. and Welcome to Piano street. I have had a impression that this etude's MAIN melody line is on the LH. I think people are overly focused on the RH in some cases. Keep up with your good work.

Thank you very much, you comments are helpful! I'm glad the playing was overall enjoyable. I think I need to lock myself in a room now and really get those notes fixed :D

As far as the left hand goes, I spent a lot of time working on getting the left hand to not be too loud. Do you feel like it should instead be louder?

Johnmar/fleet are right, the melody is in the LH. You don't want it to be overbaring, but generally I'd say this piece works better with the RH quieter and the left hand brought out into focus..

That can be pretty difficult though - as I know only too well :P

EDIT:
You may also be interested in some of this thread - its mostly my ramblings - but marik made a good point about RH practice.
