New pieces to learn...
on: August 28, 2012, 06:11:12 PM
Hello everyone, I am Graceandbeauty. I am a almost 15 year old pianist that has been playing for about 8 years. I  have completed Chopin's Nocturne in C sharp Minor, Chopin's Minute waltz, Beethoven's moonlight sonata 1-2 movements, Clair de Lune, solfeggietto et etc.. Anyway I want to take the next step an learn a new piece. I would welcome suggestions as to any good classical pieces that are at about my level and also for this piece I would like to keep it at a maximum of 6-7 pages long. Besides that what level do you think I am... I totally do not know. thanks for the info

Chopin Etude Op.10 No.3, Nocturne Op.27 No.2, Beethoven Moonlight Sonata (3rd mvt.), Liszt Liebestraum No.3...I have too many to list.

Clair de lune: level 7
Nocturne C-sharp minor: level 8
Minute Waltz: level 7
Moonlight sonata, mvt 1: level 5
Moonlight, mvt 2: level 7

Etude Op. 10/3: level 8+
Nocturne 27/2: level 8+
Liebestraum 3: level 8+

Try giving suggestions that are at least about his/her level. OP, have you played any Brahms? Brahms rhapsody no. 2 in g minor, op. 79 would probably be a step up without being unreasonable. It's a very nice piece too, I think.

Just a challenge...but those are doable. If I can do Liebestraum and play it well, she probably can too! She's been studying piano for way longer than me!
Bach Prelude and Fugue BWV848
Beethoven Piano Sonata Op.13
Chopin Etude Op.10 No.4
Chopin Scherzo Op.31

Rhapsody Op.79 No.2 is actually pretty doable. You could also try Brahm's 3 Intermezzi Op.117. They require a lot of musicality though  :-\ . Sorry if my suggestions are too difficult...

I'd say PS's listing for Chopin is in general lower than it should be. With the a lot of the flourishes in his works, you have to be pretty good to execute them well.

Take a look at some of Kuhlau's Sonatinas, The Seasons op. 37 by Tchaikovsky, J.S. Bach's Sinfonias, Beethoven's Sonatas op. 49 and op. 79 and Grieg's Lyric Pieces.

I hope I could help!
