Mariachi Piano
on: September 24, 2012, 11:24:15 PM
is there such an animal? i.e. has anything been composed for piano solo with mariachi band accompany (i.e. violins, trumpets, guitars, and guitarron and maybe vocalists?).

i know it's a long shot but i have a chance to put something on stage like with a mariachi band shoudl such a thing exist and the difficulty of the band part not be too much (maybe early college level/non music major concert band/concert symphony level difficulty?)

i found a solo for violin and piano but it is out of print and everywhere that even has a listing showns 'unavaible' , a solo plus piano might work but is not idea as im tryign to include the whole ensemble.

also it would be most rad indeed to perform with a sombrero
these guy have beaten me to it and i simply must follow suit

i am serious about the request though if anyone knows of any pieces i can explore it would be most appreciated.

gracias.

PS
Thal, i have not forgotten about your ebay sombrero, we still wait for the photos....

I, for one, will not be overly disappointed if the answer comes in in the negative.

well i'm not 'dying' to do it but it would be an interesting performance opportunity and honestly i have cut back, wayyyy back on my collaborative assignments to none for the fall term due to course load and classes but i am open to stuff for spring so i was just throwing it out there.

there are some very nice folk melodies though in the mariachi lit, really nice ones actually. some fo the subject matter/content is rather interesting too...

besides could be worse, i could have gone for a maraca solo, those exist, but w guitar accompanyment

I think the reason you don't hear piano in mariachi is because mariachi bands typically stroll around while they play, and that's hard to do with a keyboard :). Even on Youtube I couldn't really find anything with piano in it.
