Bach for Beginners by Boosey & Hawkes.. recordings??
on: October 22, 2012, 06:20:27 PM
Hello everyone I have recently picked up Bach for Beginners by Boosey Hawkes. I am teaching myself the book but I have a big problem with learning a song without know what it supposed to sound like or watching someone else play it first. Does anyone know where I could find recordings of this book? A problem with it is that the songs are just titled "Minuet" or "Chorale" so I don't know what specific Minuet to search for.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, I really want to dive head on into this book.

Hello,

Glad to know that you really want to play Bach! I looked for the book on the internet, but I realised that there are 2 volumes of "Bach for Beginners". Could you tell me which one you've bought? Then maybe I could help you!  :)
Also, I might understand which minuet and chorale you mean, if you tell me in which scale they are written. But, I think that it is a bit too early for you to know about musical scales, if you're a beginner.  ;D
Nevertheless, you could say how the pieces start and end!

These are some pieces that you possibly mean:

Minuet in G Minor BWV115

Minuet in G Major BWV114

Minuet (Danse) in G Major BWV116

(You can search for other performances of these pieces on youtube. Type the names that I wrote above the videos.)

However, if I haven't been helpful, then tell me which the start and the end of the piece is.

Keep on practicing,

Thanks so much for the response! Sorry forgot to leave out that I have book 1 of the series. I have found the first minuet it is this one

But I am still having trouble finding the first chorale in the book. It is in the key of C. Here is a link to a picture I took of the piece.

If you enter the first few words of the song text into youtube, you'll get the chorale.

It's BWV 514, Schaff's mit mir, Gott.
