I got semi decent restoring tools if there are any submission that need cleaning before posting them up.

I would like to ask... for the piece of our own choice... do we play it with all the repeats or without them?

Aaaaarrrrgggghhhhh!!!!!

Second attempt at recording; still haven't got cam position and mike gain sorted. This is driving me crazy.

Piano is losing tune at a rate of knots, too!  >:(

Good to see a fellow competitor struggling -(cackles evilly)

No seriously, you will be fine and learn a lot about recording in the process -good luck .

Why doesn't anyone answer me? Well... I'm asking because for my recitals and exams I always play without the repeats so I thought maybe it would be the same for this competition too... but if noone tells me otherwise I will just play with the repeats!  :P

My "choice" piece turned out to be about two thirds of a page  :(.

I'm doing the repeat, regardless, or it will all be over by the time anyone has their speakers adjusted.

You'd best get moving then mate.

Are you just doing the Tschaikovsky, or had you planned on a personal pick as well?

I'm also doing some scriabin prelude which I hope isn't grade 8.

You're out of luck. The only Scriabin in the grade range are some of the Mazurkas (Op 25 No 3 and Op3 Nos 1-9)

How?!?!?!?!

There is NO WAY Op. 67 No. 1 is graded at level 8!  The whole piece is comprised of only like freaking 20 notes!

I just finished recording my video guys :D, I'll be able to upload it in a few minutes. Should I upload it right away and set in private? I sent a message to ajspiano, I'm waiting for him to see it and respond.

I feel they are unlikely to attribute lack of work to incompetence. Not that it makes a difference in the end.

Sadly I have to withdraw from the competition -I have been through such a harrowing time lately -I have had little time to practise -I will post my Chopin Walt in the AR though as proof that I just couldn't be ready in time --

Hey it's due at like 12:00 tomorrow right?

I have no idea where ajs lives, so hopefully I'll be in time.  Someone is using my camera so I can't record until like noon tomorrow my time.

Has everyone recorded and posted videos yet? Cause I haven't, well I was recording today but I'll try again tomorrow (well at least the Waltz). Do we have to upload it till midnight Australian time or whatever time we have in our country? And do we upload it to youtube or send it to someone?
Oh and I probably won't be playing with the repeats because I'm not that great at it yet, I play it really slowly so it's 3 minutes long without the repeats I don't think anyone would really want to hear it with all the repeats... and besides with the repeats I have more chance of making mistakes so.... unless I get a lot better at playing it tomorrow it will be without the repeats!

I'm soo happy I'm not the only one.  I think you send it to ajspiano.  And for when it's due, Zi don't know.  Midnight new years?  Or midnight going into new years.

I'm glad I'm not the only one too  :P But how do we send it? you mean we send a link or the whole video? (that would probably be kinda difficult at least with the kind of internet we have at home ::) ). Well I hope I'll send it in time! Where is Ajs? I haven't seen him here for a long time...

I'm done.  8)

Not happy with the result, of course.  >:(

I uploaded to YT and PMd the linkt to AJ, which is I think the correct way to do it.

I believe AJ is away over Christmas and not sure when he'll be back. My guess is if it's in by the 1st your local time all will be OK.

Hi everyone,

I've received a few videos, - PM'ing me a YouTube link is great, but if you can't and just have an mp3 or something you can upload it to a service like box.com and send me that link.

I'm going to be a little lenient on the cut off time because we are all in different time zones and such. Just as long as it's on ASAP from now, whatever I have by the time I get to sorting and posting the videos will go in. Hopefully I'll do that late on the 1st of Jan my time, or if that doesn't work out then sometime on the 2nd - maybe the 2nd is better to ensure everyone has fair time...  I have no idea where you all live and what crazy time it is there. Actuall I personally just changed time zones thanks to the wonder of flight so I guess it's all a bit mixed up anyway.

I'm still technically 'away for christmas/nye' until tomorrow around lunch time, so I'll be back on the forum in force then... Unless I just go straight to th piano, I haven't touched one in a while :/

Speak soon.

I'm still getting help at zero hour with the background hiss.  The first attempt made it sound like the piano was drowning in pudding.  the darn thing is still also sitting in the piano's memory.  All I have to do is turn the piano on and hit "play" - but to get it to record right is another matter.  Found out too late that a cable can go from piano ear phone jack to computer and (Audacity?).  It's been a learning experience.

I can say right now I'm in last place.

The freaking pedal wouldn't stop squeaking!!!  I'm used to it because I've dealt with it for  while but it's soo bad you like can't hear the music.

AND everybody was freaking talking!!!  I was only able to get in ONE clip without them talking, and it's still bad.  But I guess that'll manage. >:( >:( >:(

No no you're not in last place!! My piano is so out of tune!!! I was really hoping we could get it tuned before the holidays but we couldn't... and you can also hear my pedal in some places and the keys are sooo heavy... I don't know if that has anything to do with my piano not being tuned in like 3 years, or I'm just not used to playing on my piano (without the quiet pedal), because until a few days ago I haven't been practicing on my piano without the quiet pedal for like half a year at least!!!! because of stupid neighbours! So it was kinda weird to start playing like this again!! And I had problems with trills in Waltz and we tried recording the Waltz like 5 or 6 times and I always made some stupid little mistakes and then I posted the one where I just forgot for a few seconds how to continue... and I messed up some trills of course  ::)

Oh and I hope all you people didn't dress up really nicely or something cause I really didn't feel like it, so I'm just in my not so very clean every day home clothes and I didn't comb my hair and I didn't wash my hair for a week and my room is messy (at least my mum thinks so).... but well at least it all goes well together! Well not that anyone really wanted to know all this I just felt like sharing  :P
Happy 2013 everyone!

Oh so you think you're in last place?!

The room was too dark so you couldn't even see me!  All you could see were the lights from the piano.

We shall see... >:(

Well that sounds kinda cool! Only the lights and music!  8) That makes it kinda mysterious! I think people are gonna like that!!!
I'm pretty confident the last place is MINE!!!  >:(

Yeah, it's been somewhere in the back of my mind, I have the music printed off and I read through it ... but, in the last couple of weeks I've nearly completely forgotten about it.  I'm still tidying up audition repertoire and vocal repertoire.  I think the deadline is already done, yes?  Sorry about it, I feel badly!

Well maybe if you recorded it and sent it right away it would still be ok, I don't know... I wanted to answer earlier but it wouldn't let me sign in...
And maybe if you can't be in the competition you can still record it and post in the audition room, and you could be a judge  :)

Alright, so here's my predicament.. :P

So far I have recordings from only 6 people..  Now I know 2 people have officially pulled out so that means I'm 7 short..

I think we kinda need more than 6? maybe not..

What do the entrants think about delaying a few more days to allow some others to catch up..? I will have to PM them all and say huuurrrrry UP! -  in the interest of fairness I would allow everyone to resubmit a newer recording if they want to aswell I suppose..?

Publish their names here!  A little public humiliation should inspire people to get their act together. ;D

A couple of days should be OK IMO.

I won't be submitting a new recording (much as the one I have done could be improved) - the whole thing has been too too traumatic!  :-[

Ok, I see that you say it's "preferable" to submit by video and by YT, but it's SO much harder for me to do that!  But, I don't see a way to submit to you a recording in private, since it can't be attached to a private message, sooo....

AJS, if it is too few people for a competition, why don't we just put up the recordings, and discuss them for whatever we can draw out of the music, the interpretations, and anything - anything that can be learned for growth.  That was my preference in the first place so you can call me biased.

m1469 - I have only audio.  And that part alone sucks because I found out later that a cable going from my piano (DP) into the computer would have eliminated the distortions.  I've had about 6 "fixes" from people saying they can reduce noise and hisses - each time it also took away a quality from the music.  But it has been a huge learning experience at the recording end.  There is so much to know!

Mine is in DropBox, and I sent it (them - eventually, since there were the noise-fixes) to AJS as a link to DropBox.  It can also be done via BoxNet which I had first.

So when are the links going to be posted for viewing? Even if not everyone has sent them in yet it would be good to get it started and we can spank those who are late.
