the large prelude and fugue in b-flat minor from the second book - the prelude is a three-voiced sinfonia type piece, that is really the paragon of elegance and grace - a gallant quality easy to forget sometimes in bach. the fugue is another enormous example of bach going through all the contrapuntal possibilities - the first exposition is followed by a stretto expostion; then an inverted exposition is followed by an inverted stretto; then recto and inversio are given together in stretto. a systematic plan like that of the a minor from book I, or d# minor of book I. the rhythm is quite complex, the voices chromatic, and it is on the whole very very difficult!
