For the sake of music, for the sake of communication, and according to my heart.

Very lovely rendition of the Andante Cantabile -

There are some minor details which could be better though -I think you could be a bit stricter with the rhythmic articulation -sometimes you don't play the repeated staccato notes evenly for example-though you definitely play dolce!  Your tone is very sweet and clear and beautiful-I just think if you were a bit stricter with the pulse, this wouldn't detract from the expression -and that precision has a beauty in its own right -
When a search is in progress, something will be found.

Thanks for listening and for you comments.  It is not specifically my aim to be non-strict, it is more that at some point, I must treat the music like words, sentences, and as though I am actually speaking them.  They must come from somewhere within me that is organic, and that's what I've done here, and if it were a spoken text the main aim in that would not be to keep a certain, strict pulse.  I believe an organic place is ultimately completely free and completely on its own time.  In a sense, there are no rules at all there, only the rules of a person's own heart, and in some ways that is a challenge of playing music from the heart, especially Classical music.  The heart is free and doesn't live in restrictions the same way we are intellectually taught about restrictions.  A computer can play in time and with all of the right dynamics and articulations, while playing with one's heart and in the moment of actually living a unique life is different and unique to being a human musician.

I played this piece for my high school recital last year! I love this piece so much, and I love the way you played it! You definitely took a lot of liberties with the tempo and articulation, and it was not exactly "Mozart style," but I get the feeling that you weren't really going for Mozart style anyway. Your sound is beautiful, and I love how you interpreted it. One teeny tiny thing I noticed, is that maybe your staccato notes could be a bit longer? But now I'm just being picky :P
Very nice job :)

Thanks for listening and for your comments, musicluvr.  Actually, I was indeed aiming for "Mozart style" of course, but not as from a book or somebody else's recording, or as somebody telling me something in particular, though these have been (and still are) part of my digestion process, too.  It was just my own self playing my own interpretation of Mozart.  I am listening again now and have listened a few times now, and I actually don't find my tempos to be distracting from the meaning of the phrases, but I actually balanced it out between parts of phrases, between sections, etc., and I ultimately find it one way to appropriately approach the shapes and ideas that Mozart presented to us.  And within the context of this particular recording (I probably won't ever play it the same exact way twice), I don't hear any need to change my staccatos.

I enjoyed this very much. :)  It's beautiful.  And I love the way you played the early part of the B section.

Thanks :).  I do enjoy that part of the B section very much ... the drift into minor ... so pretty.

By "Mozart style" I was talking about the way most people play Mozart (Steady tempo, less rubato...). I was saying that you were obviously not trying to conform to that style. As I said, I love your interpretation of the piece :)

I am of course happy that you enjoy it.  Believe it or not, it is actually most important to me that I communicate ideas in conjunction with what I believe a composer is giving us, which is the only reason I make the distinction that I am indeed aiming for Mozart style.  But, I do understand what you mean.  Thanks, again!

I really enjoyed your interpretation, m1469. I feel like I have never heard this composer as he ought to be played except in this and I think one other Mozart recording you made. If you ever release a full cycle of Mozart sonatas some day I'll buy it.  :)  Andras Schiff's cycle bores me. I think there is a lot of magic in Mozart's music but too many people just fail to reveal it.

Thank you very much, Derek.  I think that working on and releasing my own complete set would be a very fun project for me, at some point :).  My in-state teacher -whose Mozart I genuinely adore- will actually be releasing the complete sonatas sometime in the not-too-distant future (I can't remember when, exactly).  I am looking forward to that, too :).

This is very beautiful m1469.  To my ears, your playing went directly to the message you wished to convey.  There was no element of distracting technical perfection, that some other pianists choose to put at the forefront.  Your expression came from within you, and that is what made your interpretation so enjoyable for me.

Thank you for sharing.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Thanks both for listening and for commenting, emill!  I feel strangely and somewhat newly excited about the music there is to be played (and sung and composed :)) and heard in the world, and to be a musician. :)
