18 days.  I'm glad they've got it set like that.  I was wondering about the whole time zone issue again.  Unless it's set specifically for my computer/browser....


I remember being excited for Christmas when I was a kid.  Now I'm counting down to the end of the world.

I'm expecting at least an earthquake or something.  I'll be very disappointed in those Mayans if nothing at all happens.  If it wasn't for their civilization collapsing... Well, we could have given a severe reprimand to someone for this kind of mistake.

It's just you. I get the same in both.

Issues:
1) It's using my local time - which is currently daylight savings time to boot. Bot seem kinda wrong since there is no evidence that the Mayans used daylight savings time or that they knew about my locat time.

2) It counts down to the beginning of 21 December (ie, midnight 0:00:00am ) whereas the Mayans may not have started their days at that time (cf the jewish manner also used by the Catholic Church for liturgical purposes)

If you're gonna claim accuracy to the nearest second, there should be a disclaimer!!

I feel that it is of note that they are SELLING things on the basis of the world ending, and the need to survive..  I wonder what they anticipate being able to do with the profits post apocalypse..   oh wait.. 

ok, I wonder if the customers feel like they are being ripped off on the basis that the store believes it is ripping them off.. or they just dont care and want to stock up on dried food supplies just in case the store is mistakenly ripping them off and will have only money to survive on when they need gas masks post dec 21.

I think it would be more useful to make a thread with a more positive connotation. The world is not going to end. I have extreme anxiety and I was looking though new topics and read this one, unfortunately. But should say that this is the second topic on the F*** this thread. Nothing personal but you are really putting some negative thoughts in my mind right now, if I could filter topics of this sort out, I would. But then I would be thinking about it by going through the trouble of having to filter the negativity instead of ignoring it. BUT am acknowledging negativity for the sake of a friendly reminder. My grandpa is in the hospital and I might never get to see him again. Once I go to Russia for a month, if the world ends I will never see my mother and father again. THIS CANNOT HAPPEN however if it did, it would be the end of the world for me. SO please stop counting maximum amount of days I have with my loved ones. No I don't have a fiancee or a boyfriend, I am all alone and family is all I have and they are on separate continents. Please. I am a sick person and this is really sad and pathetic for both of us. Shouldn't you be concerned? Shouldn't I be more at peace with this?

Assuming I get this right.. 
The mayan date on the 21st of dec 2012 is expressed as 13.0.0.0.0
The ~3000bc date is 1.0.0.0.0
The day preceding the ~3000bc  date is also 13.0.0.0.0

It represents their theory of creation I think.. And the 21 dec date represents the end of the current cycle or something.

Their system also works on multiples of 20 though..
So for example, the day preceding 13.0.0.0.0 would be 12.19.19.19.19 or somesuch (I'm probably slightly wrong. The ~4000ad date is when the largest number in the date system reaches 20 and the date becomes 1.0.0.0.0.0 which is I believe beyond the scale of their system (they have no word for the new digit)

Yeah, so anyway, the Mayans had a circular concept of time. December 21 is the end of the current age, after which time restarts in a sense. I think that last day is written 13.0.0.0.0 or something along those lines.

I SERIOUSLY doubt the world will end on December 21. The Mayans had a circular view of time, and some historian found a calendar and decided to interpret the end as the end of the world, and it just happened to fall on 21.12.2012.

Last two weeks.  The world would end right before the weekend.  The world ends on a Thursday?  I wonder if the Mayans planned that.

Actually the way I heard it the world ends.  I'll go with that.  It doesn't say everyone dies though.  Just that the world ends.  So.... I guess we could be floating around in space in a couple weeks.
