pianists' injury
on: February 04, 2013, 02:31:30 AM
as title says, i've managed to sustain these strange pains and aches in my fingers when moving them, noting stiffness when moving my thumb and 2nd fingers rapidly( however i'm still able to play short quick trills), a weakness in the wrists and thus grip strength after 2 instances of playing music with hardly any chords or FFs., and a noticeable sting in the hwole of my 2nd and 3rd( only recently) fingers when simply moving them in pantomime fashion. would i be correct in assuming that i've got carpal tunnel syndrome and possibly more forms of RSI? how differently could a person sustain such injuries playing say Bach compared to someone who plays Rachmaninoff and other mostly chordy and very loud pieces( relative to early keyboard music)? not keen at all on seeing my whole life's efforts go to waste once more.

This is why you need to see a doctor, preferably someone specialized in musicians problems. We cannot confirm your self diagnosis here.

You may also need some retraining if this was caused by your playing.

Try "Deep Tissue Massage Therapist". These people will most likely also be able to refer you to a good teacher after the therapy.
