Chaos
on: August 07, 2013, 02:59:31 PM
Mvt1. Emptyness
Mvt2. Transition to Emotion
Mvt3. War
Mvt4. Light
Mvt5. Broken love
Mvt6. Love

This is me doing something on the piano apparently.

Just wanted to share something of me personally with the world, although, I would have loved to put more emotion into it.

This is me doing what my hands want me to do, there is no planning in my head beforehand. So that's why everything is so chaotic.

My first impression is that the material is there but I think you need a more engaging bass lines, a bit more of dynamics to spice it up.

An order, even within chaos there can be order. Try to keep make a distinguished line between section, modulation and other resources will help mark those transitions and thus make it look more fluidly.

Thank you. Do you have any suggestions such as exercises?

Thank you. Do you have any suggestions such as exercises?

If you mean technical exercises then I suggest Czerny's School of Velocity Op.299. No.1 to build speed on the right hand (mostly scales) then do No.2 to even the left hand. After that on't follow the book but look to strength the areas you need more currently.

If you're talking about composing then I would said learn more theory and try to do arranges of songs you're familiar first rather than going all out on your own. I want to someday compose my own works but I found out that I suffered some of the things you do, namely that the music got  out of control, I tried to do too much instead of developing a line of thought.

When I started to mess around with music that was already there I started (and haven't finished) to get insight in some things like the most common patterns for bass lines and so on.
Also as i said before read some music theory (I am studying some counterpoint right now) but more than studying hear the music. Next time you take your music device of choice pay attention to the subtleties of the music.

Now I am not trying to hijack your thread but I would like to show you a example of what I mean.

You may be familiar with the Song of the Storm from the videogame The Legend of Zelda, if not I am providing a small sample, compare the difference between them. You will see that most of my tweaks were based on material that was there already.

Original.

Arr.

So by all means take ideas, borrow them and so on. After all you need the experience and it isn't like you're getting profit out of it. Hope this helps

I am not Thomas XD. He is just a good friend and even a mentor, I used his video because he had no qualms and because his rendition of the original song is beautiful.

;D I also started in 2012 much to my dismay D; I only arranged the second version.
