Good choice or any elective out of your normal comfort zone.

Does piano get you babes?

Most certainly if:
1) you are really good, and are able to tug at their heartstrings with what you do on the instrument;
2) you are in their taste as a person in other respects.

P.S.1: Some obsessive-compulsive types of "babes" have a tendency to go much further with their self-deception than is comfortable for you, so you'd better be careful. ;D
P.S.2: If you are not so good, then a piano (especially a grand) can also prove very practical to put flowers on, and as a rule, "babes" adore flowers. ;D

Nah.  Even Beethoven, who dedicated whole pieces to high class women, couldn't hook up with one.  Chopin did okay, though.
And in my 55 years of piano, the room decor always got more attention from women than me.  I did attract one woman in high school band, but there was a lot of vigorous sweaty formation marching involved, plus some contests we aced together in a group.
Piano is something a male  does for pure art, without further reward.
The guy that does best on stage these days is the guy that fronts the band Arcade Fire.  But maybe the women are there because he pays them.  It started out as a performance art project anyway, not a band.

Might not get you the kind of babes you want.  There's a type that goes after musicians I think.  Doesn't matter what they play or how well.  Basically just hold any instrument and you're it.  You don't actually have to even play anything on the instrument and it could be someone else's instrument.

There's another type that goes after teachers.  Male teacher = good father, stable job (depends on where you work).  Also might not be the person you're looking for.

Don't laugh but a friend of mine signed up for modern dance. He was one of the few guys in the class. His dancing was marginal but he could lift the girls. We could hardly talk to him because he was always surrounded by women.

@ theholygideons

That is: if you can really "climax" in that piece in the right places, yes. If you can't, and you play the critical parts mechanically with merely superficial sound effects and without the passion the piece requires, they may start thinking you are a member of some secret piano jitsu society, and you will scare them off. ;D

Besides things like late Scriabin or Schoenberg work much better for this one. Tonal music does not have the same effect  :P

Correct, (I think).

As a matter of fact, standard classical music is not the best tool at all, unless the other side can also play the piano. In that case, you can do quatre-mains, which can be just as erotic as dancing together. The secret is, of course, not in what you play, but in what you communicate.

P.S.: Jazzy variations of known tunes seem to work a lot better for the ears of girls/women who don't play themselves, especially if the work is your own. I also have my own arrangements of well-known effects like the "Big Ben", for example, which work really well to make virtually any person look up from what they are doing. I can also do a couple of Victor Borge sketches. Good humor in boys/men is something girls/women really seem to appreciate. :)

You'd better ask outin that question; in the meantime, I could as well ask why you so frequently use CAPITAL LETTERS and multiplicities of ?!??!?!!s

I'm straight...
I think that some here might just have guessed that.

Well, as a rubbish pianist, a talentless cook and someone who wouldn't want to skate even if he could, I cannot say that I've noticed the difference, so my conclusion is that the answer to the thread topic is probably a resounding "no".

My answer to the original question is "certainly not", at least for me. When young, my preoccupation with music successfully repulsed several romantic interests. This to the extent that before proposing I asked six times over a year, "Are you sure you could handle my obsession with music?" She answered six times that she could, and indeed my wife has - for thirty-three years. But then I wanted big romance, grand passion and a wife, not "babes", so perhaps my case is not pertinent.

Perhaps it isn't for that very reason - but then it's still a good answer and relevant to the rather questionable question!

Or the opposite can happen. I married a girl who could only play the radio. Much later in life she decided to take up an instrument and has become quite good at it. So good in fact that she must refuse gigs out of time constraints.

Sorry.

Babes go for bass players.

Piano players?  Maybe 1 of 100 has a chance at a girlfriend.  Just the way it is, deal with it.

My neighbor asked me to teach his kid bass.

He came over and we spent about a half hour learning the first notes in first position on the first string:  E, F, F#, G, G#.

He was kind of a slow learner so that's all we did, I told him to practice and come back in a week.

He came back the next week and we moved to the A string and did the same thing.  He obviously hadn't practiced all that much, he remembered the notes but hadn't improved much.  I told him work on those two strings and come back in a week and we'd start the A string and maybe a chord or two.

He said, "Sorry, can't make it next week.  I've got a gig."

Right now we're really short of bass players but never so short that we would hire anyone who plays chords on a bass! A guy I know never got to trying chords but instead found the benefits of a B string where he would fake the same rhythm as the bass drum.

Sorry about that. The humor may be a little obscure. Musicians tend to say things to each other that may mean nothing to those on the outside.

Most girls in high school like some flashy finger work (if you know what I mean) and something that sounds dreamy.
un Sospiro is always a good choice.
So is anything with nice rolling arpeggios in a major key.
I have had people complain that I wasn't playing "happy enough music" to which I replied with The first 2 ish pages of Liszt TE 8
They told me to leave if I couldn't play happier. (The funny part, the first 2 ish pages aren't all that sad, just intense)

By the way, Rachmaninov op.3 no.2 sounds really interesting in Db major...
Just here to lurk and cringe at my old posts now.

It's funny because... There's some truth in that.

It's still this question -- Does it matter who you're attracting with that crap?  Vs. who is also very aware of exactly what you're doing.

Once upon a time....
Someone Bob knows:  Here, hold my instrument.
Bob:  'K.
*Moments pass.*
Girl comes along.
Girl:  Oh, you play ____?
Bob:  No, I'm just holding this for someone.
Girl, not listening:  Oh, you must be really good.
Bob:  Not really.  I'm just holding it.  Someone else does the owning part.
Girl:  Still, you must be really good.
*Bob, questioning this girl's mental abilities.*
Bob:  I suppose I could honk on it like a beginner or middler schooler.  I'll need to teach them this some day.
Girl:  Oh, you teach?  That's so interesting.
Bob:  Yeah.
*Bob wondering why she's so interested in teaching, pretty sure she's drunk.*

And does anyone else keep reading the title of this thread "Does piano get you babies?"
