Having a hard time with Nuvole Bianche.
on: October 06, 2013, 02:06:23 PM
Hello,

I've been playing for almost a year, and I've had a very easy time learning to play stuff like Ámelie and alike. However, this piece is giving me a headache.

Here are the sheets: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13358960/Ludovico%20Einaudi%20-%20Nuvole%20Bianche.pdf.

My problem is with the 3rd line. I have no idea why, but my hands just won't let me coordinate with the sheet music. Do you have any tips on how to learn this? The right hand, that is.

Thanks a lot in advance :)

Hi Wizh

I would love to help you out but I'm not totally certain exactly what you mean by 'hands not co-ordinating with the sheet music'.

If you could explain a little more exactly what the problem is, or better still, upload an audio of you attempting to play the area of difficulty, I will be pleased to offer my thoughts on the way forward for you.

Yeah, I realize that wasn't very clear. It's hard for me to get the tempo right. I tried to record a video... Oh well, here's the result:

Hi again Wizh

Unfortunately your video is not set to public and I can't see it so I'm still a little unclear about what you are having problems with.  Do you mean the rhythm?  Have you tried listening to the music to see where the music naturally leans?

If it is the rhythm in line 3, you could try counting aloud while playing, putting a deliberate emphasis on quaver beats 1 and 7, which I've marked in red on the attachment.

I'm sorry if this is not what you are looking for but if you set your video to public, I will have an opportunity to see exactly what you mean.

It should be set to public now.

Counting is really helping!

It sounds like you're getting it just fine!  :)

I also found a couple of tutorials of this piece played slowly which you might find helpful.

Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges.
