Chopin 25/5

The famous 'Wrong Note' Etude!

I think it's called that because, not only does it sound a bit like there are wrong notes even if you play the right notes....but I've never heard any recording that didn't contain at least a few wrong ones!

In my opinion, this is perhaps the most musically beautiful one of all.

I cannot decide if this is the best performance I ever heard of you, or the worst. But I can safely say it's one of the most memorables, and that is a very good thing.
Chopin First Scherzo
Guarnieri Ponteios
Ravel Sonatine
Rachmaninoff Prelude op. 32 no. 10
Schumann Kinderszenen
Debussy Brouillards
Bach, Bach, Bach...

Hahah... my apologies for the wrong notes  ;)

There's something about this Etude. I just couldn't help it!  ;D

In my book, memorable=desirable!

I think this guy has some balls playing it this way.
I would "mask" the wrong notes and play them soft.

So koodoes for wearing those wrong notes with pride.

I don't know what chopin was smoking when I wrote this, but I have a feeling he played it like you. He put dissonant 1/2 steps everywhere on purpose, and they are to be heard, not masked.

I've heard prettier versions of this of-course we all have. But is that "A" section actually suppose to be pretty?

That's the dilemma.

Besides the contrast it creates with the B section is priceless no?

I once had a master class with someone who thought the A section is a bit like a person stumbling home after having too much to drink.

I do think the middle section is where the beauty belongs. Not that the A section should be ugly, but there's something agitated in the music that gets washed out if we go for conventional prettiness.
