Bach Prelude & Fugue WTC Book 1
on: January 01, 2014, 07:09:09 AM
Hello,

I am currently trying to decide which Prelude and Fugue from WTC I to learn--this will be my first. I'm not sure of the difficulty level of each one, so I was hoping for a little bit of guidance. I am looking for one that doesn't stretch the hands too much as I am recovering from tendinitis. I was considering E flat major or maybe A major.  I am trying to get a head start before the semester begins in a couple of weeks. To give you an idea of where I'm at, my repertoire this year included:

Sonata in f minor Op. 2 No. 1 (complete) by Beethoven
Sinfonia in b minor by Bach
Sinfonia in D major by Bach
Ostinato by Bartok
Hunter in Ambush by Schumann
Solitary Flower by Schumann
"Ondine" by Debussy
Prelude in g sharp minor by Chopin
Prelude in b flat minor by Chopin
Prelude in A Flat Major by Chopin
Prelude in B Major by Chopin

I am preparing for college auditions, so I am trying to create a nice program. I am supposed to pick out a Mozart Sonata and a few other pieces as well.
Thanks for the help!

I refer you to one of the most informative threads in this forum regarding Bach's WTC:

and also to a thread which I started a while ago:

FYI, I started with Book I C minor, and I am now working on Book 2 G major
Bach - Partita No.2
Scriabin - Etude 8/12
Debussy - L'isle Joyeuse
Liszt - Un Sospiro

Goal:
Prokofiev - Toccata
