Gender, Age, Location?
on: February 08, 2014, 09:14:49 PM
Hi all,

I was wondering why more users don't fill this out. I find it less impersonal when I know a little about the user who I am corresponding with.

Anybody care to update their profile?

I am Joe a.k.a 1piano4joe, 53 yrs. old and from Bellmore, New York, USA just in case anyone was curious!

P.S. Now honestly, don't you feel like you know me a little bit. Isn't there an image in your head of a pot bellied middle aged man? Yes, than you nailed it!

Wouldn't it be nice if we could post a head shot under our users name? Sort of like facebook.

Can't see why not.

Not necessarily a head shot. Maybe just a simple 250x250 image. It could be anything. This way we at least get an idea on what the user likes. And maybe show their name, age and gender below their username. This way we don't have to click on the person's profile, hoping we'd find more information.

I guess because I feel gender and age are quite irrelevant. There are only a few exceptions, not present on this forum ;)

I think you're right so I updated my profile.  :)  Unfortunately I just could not upload THE MARVELLOUS PHOTO of myself as an avatar, don't know why really, so you'll have to do without my lovely face.

Nils didn't want to enable avatars on here in case it slowed page loading speeds for people with slower connections.  At least that's what the reasoning was 5+ years ago.  I was thinking it's probably not an issue anymore.

Actually, I like not knowing those facts.

When I was younger, I felt that my opinions were dismissed because of my age.

Now that I'm older, I feel that sometimes my opinions which are flat out wrong are considered more valid cause an older person must have learned something in all those years!

A 17 year old who is a serious student with a good teacher living in North Dakota, may have more to teach me about becoming a better musician than a 45 year old living in Paris who just has a lot of opinions.

I totally agree. The only thing that I go by in deciding how seriously to weigh someone's opinions about technique is the stuff they've posted in the audition room. Age, sex, nationality, location... none of that matters.
