for starters... what is revolutions etude?  ::). If you mean revolutionary etude, that piece is so cliche in terms of the extent to which it gets overplayed.

If you want to win a competition, use this program: Islamey/Scarbo to show u are technically good, and then nail a movement of a Mozart sonata.  if you can't do either of these things, you should probably give up right now.

or petrushka, maybe even bits from godowsky's java suite if you wanna be unique. Basically, if the page is not entirely thickened with blackness, then you're doing it wrong

I played Clair De Lune when I was a teen in a few state comps. Debussy is a tremendously "over looked" composer for competitions, my opinion. He is technically challenging and because he is not chosen as often, it will make you stand out a bit. I love his work, so that is my suggestion. :)

clair de lune, really... that usually gets you nowhere
if u want a Debussy piece that's good for competitions, try something like l'isle joyeuse.  It's a little bit common, but it's really amazing.

Well, I'll respectfully disagree.
I find Clair De Lune to be amply appropriate ... to each's own I guess. :)

Why does that cause it to be unsuitable for competition?  :-\
It is a very provocative and challenging piece regardless of its familiarity.

Now, I'm not saying it's 'overall easy' but for competition level this is definetely too easy. Althought I agree the performance is more important than repertoire, claire de lune is just... It doesn't work. Of course it all depends what kind of competition we're talking about.
Chopin First Scherzo
Guarnieri Ponteios
Ravel Sonatine
Rachmaninoff Prelude op. 32 no. 10
Schumann Kinderszenen
Debussy Brouillards
Bach, Bach, Bach...
