How many hours for Rachmaninoff Prelude in c#?
on: April 08, 2014, 12:46:40 AM

(On a side note, what's amazing about this recording is it was on a reproducing piano- This is Rachmaninoff himself playing)

I've currently just finished a few Chopin pieces, namely the Waltz in C# minor and the mazurka in a minor Op 17/4, and starting on his Etude op 10/3.

Oh and Bach's invention in F major #8

So roughly how many hours of practice do you all think this would take? I know that's different for every pianist, but just how many for you people? I can learn pieces relatively quickly when I'm really passionate about them, but this is a bit of a stretch in difficulty for me.
Oh, and to be clear, I doubt if EVER I will get my playing nearly as good as Rachmaninoff's recording.
Also, is it Rachmaninoff, Rachmaninov, or either?

If you also play it on a reproducing piano, about 3m 48s.   ;D

Rachmaninoff used the -off form himself.

It's a transliteration of the Cyrillic Рахма́нинов, and tastes have varied over time and place as to how best that is achieved - hence the various spellings.

As to the time it takes you.... impossible to say.  You'll just have to do the experiment.

The technical requirements compared to the other pieces:
Less hand independence
Better ability of voicing
Better speed
Better ability of reading music

The time spent on 'mastering' a piece depends on how advanced the pianist is, and how high the pianists demands are.
So maybe you should ask yourself how useful our information would be for you, unless you're really hoping to read that some people spent even more hours on it than you did ;)

Haha, got it.
And thanks to whomever above stated the technical requirements, much appreciated.
