College audition
on: June 30, 2014, 09:32:26 PM
What I have to do- All major and minor scales and arpeggios + 2 pieces with contrasting styles of different periods. I'm doing a Chopin nocturne, and still have to make another selection. I was thinking about doing a Bach Prelude and Fugue, but would that mean I have to perform both a Prelude and Fugue? Or could I get away with just performing a Prelude?

It's not a Prelude and Fugue if you skip the fugue.

And why would you want to anyway?  :o

Most likely no. And fugues are %80 of the WTC. If you're not at all good in polyphonic music, you always have the option to play Mozart, or even Prokofiev (Some of the Suggestions Diaboliques) and Schönberg (Op. 19).
Btw: Which nocturne are you going to play if you don't mind?

No 20 C sharp minor. The fugue seems a little intimidating to me lol. Other selections that I can choose to play are : J.S. Bach-any prelude and fugue, Haydn, Mozart or Beethoven-any sonata, Chopin-nocturnes,
waltzes, impromptus, or mazurkas, Brahms-Klavierstucke, Debussy-preludes. I have only been playing for three years. My teacher has suggested the Mozart's Sonata in C major, K.545, the first movement. I have a whole month to practice and memorize. If you have any other suggestions?

I think your teachers suggestion is a good one.
