Which program do you think is best?
on: November 28, 2014, 06:34:56 PM
(in terms of style, contrast, difficulty, likeability, etc.)

Which of the below pieces do you think would go best with the following partial program?
Bach... Prelude and Fugue in B, WTC I
Beethoven... Waldstein Mvmt. 1
Ravel... Ondine from Gaspard

Option #1: Mazeppa (Liszt)
Option #2: Ballade #4 (Chopin)
Option #3: Vingt Regards #11 (Messiaen)

Thanks!

I think the Ballade will fit the best into you repertoire. It'll contrast with the other pieces - you will be able to show your versatility. I played only this piece, from your option list, so I can't compare them by difficulty and I can't tell if it'll be the most difficult choice.
The second choice is Mazeppa.

I'm going to give a really predictable answer and say whichever one you feel the most comfortable with.

Is this for a recital, audition, competition, exam? I think it does depend.

I did listen to your Waldstein, two Ballade posting, Ravel and Mazeppa in the Audition room  :)

I really liked your second Ballade posting (not the one in the formal setting), I think someone said that he would buy a concert grand for you or something like that in the comment. It was really that good. So I vote on Ballade. You didn't post Messiaen? Since I am an uneducated amateur, I shouldn't make a comment like this, do you like Mazeppa as a piece? Your video just didn't send that vibe.

I just saw you post Mazeppa again... so sorry, please don't take me seriously, I am really an amateur with no music gift - I can't judge anything. I simply meant your Ballade 4 was incredible - every note was deliberate and from the heart! (And your Ravel was heavenly too) Having said that, I did notice you had split moment hesitations in Mazeppa here and there, which don't seem based on your interpretation, rather a split moment looking for notes.... But what do I know, I am really an amateur with no music training, mostly self-learned, can't play 1/100 of what you play. I am just sharing my impression, because you deserve the best! Good luck on your competition!   Just one more thought, what does your teacher think? It's not useful to ask online, as you'd get comment from people like me who is completely unqualified.

I really love how u played your ballade, and I think it'd be the best addition to the program.
