Problem with fast section marked 'dolcissimo'
on: February 28, 2015, 08:23:30 AM
I am having a little problem with Chopin's Nocturne Op9#3 in bar 27.
There is a run of notes - about 24 of them marked 'dolcissimo'.
Whilst I can play the notes that fast, I cant make them come out as dolcissimo - its with some effort that I can play them at the correct speed at all.
I have found a YouTube clip of someone playing it in a way that closely matches what I am aiming for. The bar in question starts 59 seconds in.
Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

And therein lies your problem. Work on that until they are free and easy and controllable. At speed, and at 20% above. Only once you aren't thinking about how your playing the notes can you truly achieve the how you're playing the music. Concentrate on the legato, the flow, the pulse and the dynamics by all means. But that
dolcissimo
won't come until the notes are out of the way.

To be honest, I realised the answer was contained in my question as soon as I posted it.
I guess I was hoping for a magic answer that didnt involve any work lol
Luckily, I love the piece so loads more practice is no chore.
Anyway, thanks for your advice and apologies for the rather stupid question.
