Mozart sonata in Am
on: May 01, 2015, 02:17:54 PM
Hi i am  trying to choose a Mozart sonata for an around Grade 8 level, and btw just the 1 movement, not the whole sonata. The ones that i liked were no11 i think in A and no 8 in Am. They didnt seem too hard but is there something hard  in them i can have problems with? Any other ones worth checking out?

Thanks, heard that one (but the youtube vid is not available for me ) but I'm having trouble playing pieces that are quick and playful  which is why I liked the A minor sonata. But I see that there's only 2 out of 18 written in a minor key...

The A minor is wonderful. Go for it!

What about the 2nd movement (Andante amoroso) of the Sonata in B flat major, K. 281? Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdDySpnKXpk.

Failing that there's around 20 or so Mozart sonata movements listed at grade 8 on the piano syllabus site at www.pianosyllabus.com. Just search Mozart/sonata/8 and you're away.

Well here both the A sonata K331 and the Am K310 are listed as grade 8. This year I played a Haydn sonata which is listed as grade 7 here. So i guess this sonata is a bit more difficult, but i have time to learn it, i think i'm gonna go for the A minor sonata. And yeah, the requirements for the competition i'm going to are a 1st movement sonata, so I can't go 2nd or 3rd.

Competitions get sillier by the day.  :(

K331 has the famous Turkish March as its 3rd movement.
K310 is technically more difficult than K331 generally speaking.

As a start, I think it's better to go for K331 first, if you only limit these two as your choices.

BTW, Grade 8 of which country?

Thx guys doesn't matter anymore, i started learning the sonata I'm up till the third page, today i finished practicing the light C major part, took some practice but still pretty easy. But i want to ask something about the fingering (sorry if i am going off topic) in this video at 1:27 he seems to be doing just thumb and middle finger for the left hand, while I spend a lot of time mastering the system in my score both for right and left hand.
. And also this seems kinda slow for Allegro ?

I like K 331, because it's generally easier than K 310 and it sounds better.

I recommend you to play K457. It's my favorite Mozart sonata.
I made an account and hadn't used it in a year. Welcome back, kevon.
