Misty Night (my original composition)
on: June 20, 2015, 06:14:36 PM
Hello fellow travelers…
I wanted to share this piece..  It is somewhat in the form of a prelude …written for a small ensemble.  Comments are welcome and appreciated.  Thank you for listening.

Really like the Mike Stern sounding guitar--that's cool.  You must like Jean Luc Ponte?  Pat Metheny?

Hi.  Yes Pat Burn, the guitarist  (and friend) got the vibe just right… I am really happy with that.. I am glad you liked it. ;D
I don't listen too much to Jean Luc Ponte, but i do enjoy some of his collaborations with A. DiMeola and S. Clark…  There was a group called 'Quartet Music' some while back with Alex. Cline (drums)  and Nels Cline (guitar) J. Gautier… on violin…I drew some inspiration there… Also, enjoy(ed) some tunes by Shakti…. Of course, I have very many influences, as i would guess  many here do…
Thank you so much for lending your ears!

Very complex and enjoyable. I will admit I expected something rather banal based on the title. More examples of why you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover!  :P

Hi pianoworthy.  Thank you.  I am glad you enjoyed it.
Funny, I have changed the title on this one a few times.  To call it a prelude or a nocturne i felt was too generic, and didn't give much of an impression, so i had called it "moonlit lullaby" , which didn't sit right with me either… Perhaps its current title, although indicative, rings a bit pedestrian. :-\  If you have a more suitable title, I'd be curious to know, as I am still searching.
Thanks for listening and sharing your ideas.   ;D

I think the title certainly fits the theme of the composition! Perhaps considering translating the title to French or Italian? Those languages always seem to add a bit of an exotic touch to musical titles  ;D. I jest of course, though there's a hint of truth in my absurd statement.  ::)

Thank you, Michael.  I am glad the tune 'spoke' to you.
For this tune, i was attracted to the (sort of) post-romantic harmonic palette, with a dramatic (melodic) line weaving its way thru.. (passing off to the guitar lead, then joined with bass unison, before returning…)
Thanks for listening!
