Liszt's Don Juan
on: August 21, 2015, 12:36:22 AM
OK, a disclaimer: I CANNOT PLAY THIS, BY ANY MEANS:
I actually just started reworking the Bach 2-Part Inventions
I have A LOT of fundamentals to learn. I just wanted to see people's reactions to this piece.
But, has anyone heard this live? What do you thing? Is it just to exhausting to listen to? By the time "La Cirem da Mano" starts, do you already feel to unrefreshed to appreciate its beauty? Or is it not like that? Does it wow you? Do you never get bored?
I've never heard it played live, but I'm sure some of you have, so I wanted to hear about your experience.

Busoni cites it as "an almost symbolic significance as the highest point in pianism"
Listen to John Ogdon play it with that in mind and you will look at many things differently.
I'm working on the passages in thirds as an excercise as of a few days ago, if/when i can get them good enough i'll begin learning the whole thing.
