a goal list for 3 months in
on: September 08, 2015, 07:36:02 PM
So I have realized as a complete beginner and no possibility for a teacher that I need to set some goals for myself. I think 3 months sounds good and I should have a firm grasp of at least a few things. Would anyone that can play decently help me out with this. I've got sifters piano method book and figure to ,make it through that would be one point as well as knowin c,d,g and f major scales a and d minor scales and their fingerings(which I know.already I'm just drilling it in now. C,g,f major chords and A/D minor chords, broken and together. Anything else I should throw in or take.out???

What I suggest is, assuming that you are indeed a total beginner, to learn the C major, G Major, D major, F Major, B-flat major scales as for the major scales. And the A minor, E minor, B minor, D minor and G minor scales as for the minor scales. That should be easily managable in three months. This learning of the scales is not, in any fashion, to 'get better technique' because you will not improve 'technique' of any sort by learning them. This is to improve sight-reading - which you're having difficulties with according to your other posts - and also to get a basic grasp on music theory, and in this particular case, how to construct scales.
However, only working on scales will be extremely boring and is no good idea to do because it will not, in any way, improve your musicality. This should be done by playing/learning actual pieces, listening to music and also by analyzing music. If you want me to give you some idea's I could give you some.
Anyway, let me know if you're interested in setting up a professional three months plan, however, it will be even more efficient to make a 5 years plan.
BW,
Glenn

Glenn I must admit I am interested in everything your saying to me. Please do continue on I could use some ideas. A professional plan would be even better if your willing. Thank you very much. It is hard as a beginner to find good information in actually becoming a musician versus playing this song or that song.
Thanks again Jason

I think I'm needing to.develop a good daily practice and know how to alter it as I get better. But alas I cannot since I know nothing on the subject unfortunately...
