Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges. Can't find this anywhere. Can anyone provide me with a scan or at least a place where I can purchase the score?

The CPS has a 2 piano version. If it was one of my scans, i will let you have a copy.

A delightful work that in my opinion is as good as anything by Mozart.

agreed (that's its good and not inf to W.A.M).

how do you feel it stacks/measure up to the J.W. pc's? ie

I need to find recordings of 2, 3, 4 and 6, i'm sure i have access to them if they've been recorded at all by a naxos affiliated label via NML...

Regretfully, they have not all been recorded. Wolfl was a strange one as i get the impression his concertos seem to look back to Mozart whilst he is capable of more Beethovian oomph with his solo works.

The 1st concerto is probably the best and the Mozartian theme intro gives us a clue of what is to come. I have played through all the pc's and some of the sonatas and puzzle over his neglect. The Ne Plus Ultra Sonata is a bastard.
