*never really have been of the opinion (regarding chatter upstairs) that Fred is not skilled or the music not lovely in some ways. Quite the contrary, I acknowledge the skill and construction, just it's not my particular flavor/style. Also more than anything, I just grew tired of it over time as I completed my first round of advanced study at music school.
regarding any instrument, I tend to gravitate to the mellower sound of the Cello or Viola on the string side (and trombone and tuba/euphonium for winds).
lately I really like Viola sonatas, and this one by
Vasilenko
is really growing on me (the btw Bowen wrote a super fly viola work)
as for Kosenko, it's jiggy in my book so that's all that matters to me. I know what I like and what I find interesting so I don't waste time trying to find merit in something grew bored of or simply can't stand listening to more than a few bars (btw i've always said I like the Chopin Mazurkas as far as the solo piano stuff). I think i'll go listen to that Kosenko concerto again.
