Chopin Scherzo no.3 Concert Performance
on: October 10, 2015, 04:40:55 PM
Hello, everyone. I am 13 years old and just recently performed Chopin's Scherzo no.3 in a concert at the school which I recorded. It is not the best of recordings, but it has some things I like and others not so much. I am playing this piece in another concert next week on Friday so yesterdays' concert was a sort of practise for the concert next week which is much bigger, substantial and important to me. There are a quite a few technical mistakes here and there, however the piano was quite stiff and that's why (among other things) why I might have messed up on the descending scale passages. Anyway, enough excuses and please have a listen to my playing! Thank you and any comments, good or bad, will be very much appreciated.

In my opinion overall you have done admirably. But it sounds like you missed and continued to miss the eighth rest in the opening octaves. I like the tempo of the choral but the descending passages could be a little more quiet so that the cords sound more connected and not as if they stop when the cascading notes begin but continue to sing until the next cord begins. Also the coda could be faster and with a little less pedal otherwise it begins to sound murky after a short time. Maybe using only half pedal most of the time at this part would help. Overall it sounds great. Keep up the good work!
Sometimes I can only groan and suffer and pour out my despair at the piano.

I recommend listening to Stefan Askenase play the op.39. There are many things that I think will help you with this piece.
