My first "live" peformance
on: November 15, 2015, 03:02:12 PM
I will be doing my first "live" performance in the home of my piano teacher who wants to give her students live performance experience.

I have never played before anyone...not even my family, so I'm already nervous about this.

Any tips would be very much appreciated.

Thank you, all!

Hi Bernadette,

I had my first performance last weekend in teacher's house like you. All in all it wasn't so bad...

I do not have specific tips but I would like to just wish you good luck! ;)

Tips would be, as you already mentioned, trying to perform for your family and friends and see if you have any hiccups.

Try to make a dummy setup, recording your own performance whether at home or somewhere else and having a 1-take attempt, to see how it would sound if you were to do the real thing and work on any issues.

1)  I am a male classically trained pianist/philosopher.  And, I have played in public, large stage and small stage.

2)  There are cold audiences, and then there are cheerleader audiences.  Your teacher has not invited a cold audience.

3)  Therefore, unless you have a seizure during your performance, then you will be okay.

Most importantly, with this heavy weight off of your back, please concentrate/focus on the following two things:

1)  Do not over practice your piece before the performance, a couple of run-throughs will suffice.

2)  Find a soft nice couch to lie down on before you go on.  Do not, DO NOT!! hang around with the other performers.  It will tie you up in knots.

Before your performance, you very much need to live in your own world.  If your parents can help, this would be the best solution.
