What makes music so bloody dark?
on: March 21, 2016, 08:54:57 PM
"WAR IS PEACE"
"FREEDOM IS SLAVERY"?
"IGNORANCE IS STRENGH"?
That is from the novel '1984'.
This is, the slogan of Big Brother's party.
Today, a sad similarity lies with our world and this slogan.
A slogan which is "On A Dark Note"

I wasn't aware particle vibrations (sound) suddenly had similar attributes to photons..
In all seriousness, please don't make more than one topic to plug yourself.

"Dunkel ist das Leben, ist der Tod" (das Lied von der Erde)
with the references to Orwell, you have brought totalitarianism and doublethink into your discussion. the identical musical composition can be utilised for completely conflicting ideologies and purposes, which suggests the darkness is in the human mind and soul, not the music. consider Burgess' "A Clockwork Orange " or how totalitarian megalomaniacs have loved LvB's ninth symphony.
has Armenian music influenced your choice of modes in your improvisations ? all cultures have dark and light episodes in their histories ; Mahler addressed a common human predicament. buona fortuna in your journey.
