Good piece to go with Chopin Etude Op 10 No 4
on: April 20, 2016, 02:49:17 AM
I've just started to learn Chopin Etude Op 10 No 4 for a competition next year. (I'm 16)

I also need a work from the classical or baroque periods to go along with it for the competition...does anyone have any suggestions for a piece from those eras that would go well with it? Thanks, help is greatly appreciated. (also, please try to keep the works below 8 minutes, thanks)

My teacher typically allows me to choose my pieces then gives me a green light of approval (or red light) once I bring pieces to her.

I've played other easy-medium Chopin Etudes, Chopin Ballades 1-2, a few Beethoven Sonatas, a few Preludes and Fugues (ugh) and une barque sur l'ocean (Ravel) in the last two years.

If you've got the chops for 10/4, and are experienced with bach, you can try his awesome prelude and fugue in G minor from WTC II:

If you can play it well along with the etude, you'll win for sure.
