In my nine-prelude set--I've presented the first seven here over the last three years--I think Prelude No. 8 is the deepest emotionally.




A high-register ostinato octave on the dominant sounds throughout the piece, leading to dramatic clashes as the harmonies beneath stray far from the tonic.  In the score, I notate the ostinato in a staff of its own.  You can see how the right hand juggles the melody line with the ostinato in the score video:
