Where I live a 15 year old won the big city symphony youth piano competition, playing this infamous Concerto #3 in D minor by Sergei Rachmaninov.
Hmmmm, was she a Xu Fei's student, and was it in Arizona?
Then two of my former students played in the same competition Rachmaninov no. 1 and Saint-Saens no. 2.
One of my other students won a few competitions there. At age 14-15 in his repertoire were Chopin Etudes op. 10 no. 1, 7, 8, Chopin Schezo no. 1, Liszt Rhapsodies no. 6 and 12, Beethoven Sonata no. 3, Ravel Scarbo, Prokofiev Concerto no. 3. Needless to say, anything he played, pianistically was just perfect.
Now he is studying at university, doing majors in astro-physics, math, and computer-science, and minor in piano performance.
